It takes a Village: Vancouver Sustainable Energy
In an area of New Westminster known as the Molson brewery district (because it was once the site of a brewery), there's an opportunity to do just that.
The development is a stone's throw from a SkyTrain station and is adjacent to a hospital. The mix of commercial, residential and office space, plus a large hospital, makes the planned neighbourhood an ideal candidate for district energy because not all the users have the same peak loads. BC Hydro funded a feasibility study identifying it as a promising district energy site, and the developer that owns it, Wesgroup Properties LP, has boasted on its website that the project will feature "several eco-friendly initiatives, including an innovative alternative energy program."

The Grand Opening of the Central Valley Greenway was held on Saturday, June 27, 2009. Click here to view a map of the Central Valley Greenway. The route passes The Brewery District along East Columbia Street, and the site servicing team ensured there was new pavement in place along this section in time to welcome the crowds!
The Central Valley Greenway – or CVG for short - is a new 24-kilometre cycling and walking path that runs near the Millennium Line SkyTrain through Vancouver, Burnaby, and New Westminster. This dedicated cycle and walking path from Science World to New Westminster Quay links to plenty of parks, shopping, worksites, and major transit hubs along the way.
Site servicing work along East Columbia Street is continuing and includes an upgraded storm system which will separate the storm water from the sanitary sewer. Also coming soon is the repaving work along the entire frontage on East Columbia Street to ensure safe commuting.
Future work to be completed: New street signals at both Alberta Street and Keary Street, and new pedestrian sidewalks, landscaping with trees and foilage, and finally our beautiful new street lamps!
